This is an article written by Prof. Jeffrey Simon of New York University. He appears to be a great fan of MInitab.
After all the truthfulness of (statistical) software depends on the domain prowess of developer(s) but not the inventor. As I always used to say (in class), the corporate approach to software is always overwhelmed by community approach. The community approach continues to be a superior force that might dictate future (as it is now).
In this context; Raymond's observations on software development models appears to be true. His essay surely continues to serve as a beacon for software industry. He, in fact, coined Linus's Law.
The story of open source software is always very interesting as much as Ramayana of the east and Trojan war of the west. Linus after inventing the Linux kernel has always remained in obscurity, he never like to be highlighted in media. That should be the character of inventor. Once, having given to the community the inventor's roll rise (or reduce) to be a monitor, and nothing else. Let the community take care the rest.......and that rest always makes success so much so that society muse and amuse about that forever.
In fact, what community did to Linux is astounding than what Linus did. He being the leader kick started the process, rest went on its own course.
Please read it and enjoy, often this type of stuff helps us understand the power of the tool in use (hand).
